April (Gorman) Aguinaga (1993) is about to start a new job as Virtual Liaison Librarian at the Cerritos Public Library, serving as a bridge between the reference staff and the computer tech people. Jose Aguinaga (April's husband) (1993) is working as an Associate Librarian at California State University, Long Beach as a Social Sciences librarian, as well as doing outreach for the library. His library's website is http://www.csulb.edu/library/

Gwen Alexander (2001) started her new job as Associate Dean for Administration of Wichita State University Libraries on June 1. Gwen is enjoying her new job and feels very much at home in Wichita (it's as hot there as it is in Tucson). She is looking forward to reconnecting with SIRLS alum at professional conferences in the future.

Mary (Kadull-Kackley) Allen (1976) has been working as a Reference Librarian at Everett Public Library in Everett, WA (about 29 miles north of Seattle) for 10 years. She is responsible for the development of the Spanish and Russian Language collections and the Periodical Collection of magazines and newspapers. Mary also reaches Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, and Investment Internet Classes.

John "Howie" Carter (1998) is the Manager of Instructional Support Services and Web Coordinator at the Morris Library of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a tenure track position. He is in charge of 17 librarians, administrative professionals, and civil service workers. In addition, they have a dozen graduate assistants, and about 20 student workers. The department does audiovisual support for faculty, Web course design, video teleconferencing, instructional design, graphic arts, video production, instructional evaluation, administer WebCT and WebBoard, and many other activities. They are collocated with and support the Regional Center for Distance Learning and Multimedia Development, a grant funded agency which provides similar support for community colleges in Southern Illinois. They participate in a cooperative partnership with the Information Technology Department to provide basic and intermediate seminars on Microsoft Office products for students and staff. Ruth Kneale (1999) is back in Tucson after a two-year stint in Hawaii. She is still working for the Gemini Observatory and implementing remote management for the two libraries on Hilo for which she is still responsible. Ruth is also becoming involved in new research into extra-large telescopes. Although she misses scuba diving and the green sea turtle, Ruth is happy to be back where she can bellydance with others and drink prickly-pear margaritas.

Kris Mackey (1999) is working for Blizzard Entertainment (a computer game company) in Irvine, CA as the Data Archivist. She is the first person in the company to hold this position. Kris is on the cutting edge of computer technology and enjoys a friendly, casual work environment.

John Phillos (2000) has recently started a new Administrative Librarian position with the State of Delaware. He is the Regional Librarian for the Delaware Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH). His position includes both managing the LBPH, with 3.5 FTE employees and 3 volunteers, and providing education and public relations about the LBPH and the services it provides. This "Road Show" aspect of his job allows John to travel around the state and visit libraries and other service providers to insure that all who are eligible receive service.

Sue Trombley (1999) published her first paper in journal Catholic Library World, June 2001 issue: Database Cleanup: Errors in the Catalog!" The paper was a revision of a paper presented at a regional Medical Library Group meeting in San Francisco.

Eileen Smith (1999) is currently finishing up a 2-year NEH grant as a Rare Book Cataloguer at the John Carter Brown Library (Brown University), where she has been working with Mexican imprints of the 16-18 centuries. This past June, Eileen was appointed to the Bibliographic Standards Committee of the Rare Book and Manuscripts Section of ACRL. This is the group that determines the rules for rare book cataloguing, supplementing AACR2. In October, Eileen will be returning to the western states. She has accepted a position as Rare Book Cataloguer at the Huntington Library in San Marino, California.

Kurt Wagner (1994) was recently promoted to the Head of Library Information Systems at the Cheng library. He manages Library Automation, staff and public computing, the integrated online bibliographic system, and is the web manager. On a personal note, Kurt was married this June to Victoria Heenan of Alexandria, VA. Victoria is Head of Lending Services at the David and Lorraine Cheng Library of William Patterson University.
