GATES INTERN PROGRAMThe Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded a State Partnership Program grant to Arizona. A cooperative relationship between the Foundation, state library agencies, schools for library science, and local libraries within a state is developed. Interns travel to a variety of public libraries, assist with computer installation, train librarians and staff in computer use, and provide technical field support for the libraries in the state. Internships are for one year. I am delighted to announce that the Gates Foundation has selected four SIRLS students to be Gates Library Interns from October 2000 to October 2001. These four students are:Tracy Cook Cathie Fox Eowyn Gonzalez-Mesa Heidi Holland Please join me in congratulating them as they begin their work with a training session in Seattle the end of this month. Also, please join me in congratulating the applicants who interviewed for the positions - there were a total of 12 applicants, all of whom were eminently qualified and would represent SIRLS proudly. SIRLS was well represented with a terrific pool of candidates. My thanks to all of you for your interest, and best to our four that will continue to represent SIRLS with Gates.
