SIRLS Fetes Students, Faculty at Winter Graduation

School of Information Resources and Library Science (SIRLS) faculty, students, graduates, and their families had reason for celebration at this year's Winter Graduation Celebration. In addition to commemorating the remarkable achievements of SIRLS summer and winter semester graduates, the event on December 16th also honored exemplary work from students and faculty members who have displayed talent and commitment above and beyond the call of duty.  

After brief and encouraging words from GladysAnn Wells (Director and State Librarian of the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records), SIRLS's Library Student Organization President Rebecca Blakiston announced the recipients of the Faculty Member Awards. Lauded for her "engaging and comprehensive teaching style" and "overall outstanding contributions to the development of student scholarship," Marty Kreipe de Montano (Manager of the National Museum of the American Indian's Resource Centers) was awarded the "Outstanding Part-Time Faculty Award." Tom Wilding was awarded the “Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Member Award for his "invaluable perspectives on the practical side of library and information science" and his "genuine interest in the professional development of SIRLS students."

On behalf of the SIRLS faculty, who vote on the student awards, SIRLS Director Jana Bradley presented Olivia Bautista Sparks with the "Outstanding Student Achievement Award" for her "outstanding academic achievement, professionalism, enthusiasm and commitment to the profession." Bradley also recognized Rosita Klee for the "Excellence in Commitment to Social Justice Award."
