WANTED IRLS MENTORS!

Mentor/Professional Partnership Program

As all of you are aware, professionals currently working in the discipline can be of great value to those working their way through the Master's program by providing tips with regard to resume writing, interviewing technique, job seeking and selection, and so forth.

The SIRLS Mentor Program works in tandem with the formal advising process already in place at the School. It is our desire that this program offer our students support in the more nonacademic areas as they complete their programs and head into the job market. Additionally, the School also wishes to keep in better touch with the alum, and keep them more involved with the School. Additional mentors are being sought from the professional community.

The school maintains a database of all the current students in the program as well as our alumni. Our hope is to match the student with alumni and associates in the field according to the student's needs and also by area of the profession. In looking through our database, the School notes a very diverse and talented group and takes great pride in all your accomplishments.

As we build our SIRLS Mentor and Friendship Program we hope your assistance and participation in this venture will make the program a successful one. Below are the guidelines for being a mentor with our program.

  • Allow yourself to be listed on the web-based listing
  • Dedicate a small amount of time if a student seeks you as a mentor
  • Invest your time with our students to help secure a stronger information profession community
  • Keep in touch with the SIRLS administration, any feed back you can provide will prove helpful to the School as a whole.

Lastly, this program is completely voluntary. We feel that the students can only benefit from your experience, knowledge and guidance in this aggressively changing profession. The School feels alumni can bring an added and valued perspective to our student body.

If you would like to become a mentor, please send an email to sirls@email.arizona.edu with your contact information and a brief description of your areas of interest. Again, please accept our thanks and we hope that you will find this program beneficial as we embark on new and exciting challenges in the profession.

Thanks for contacting us! We will get back to you soon!
